Wrinkles are a by-product of the aging
process.

With age, skin cells divide more slowly,
and the inner layer, called the dermis,
begins to thin. The network of elastin (the
protein that causes skin to stretch) and
collagen fibers (the major structural
proteins in the skin), which support the
outer layers of skin, loosen and unravel that
cause depressions on the surface.

With aging, skin also loses its elasticity, is
less able to retain moisture, oil-secreting
glands are less efficient and the skin is
slower to heal. All of these contribute to the
development of wrinkles. Aging skin is an
accumulation of tissue damage that occurs
over the years. The damage actually starts
in the deeper skin layers where the
supporting structures like collagen break
down.
One of the most significant signs of aging is wrinkles. Other signs are leathery skin texture, brown
spots, or broken capillaries. As we age some elements of the skin become depleted. This can be
caused by many factors such as the environment, genetics, lifestyle, or diet to name a few.

Any one of these factors can contribute to the size and amount of wrinkles one can have. In a sense
toxins and free radicals plug-up the body, bringing about premature aging, wrinkling and loosening of
skin, and a general loss of vitality.
